The Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability) prepares you for working with elderly and/or people living with disabilities in a community or residential setting. You will learn to communicate and work in health or community services, provide individualised support, recognise healthy body systems, work with diverse people, support independence and wellbeing, follow safe work practices and work legally and ethically. 

Individual support has two specialisations, disability and ageing, in one. Students will gain both streams by studying this dual specialisation.

Work placement/industry experience

120 hours of work placement is required in this course, organised by The Gordon.

  • Students will complete placement over 3 weeks, 5 days per week. Hours will be from 7.00am - 3.00pm.
  • Placement is not paid work and students will not receive payment for undertaking practical placement.
  • A current police check is required.
  • The uniform is navy blue scrub top, including black/navy pants/scrub pants and flat non-slip fully enclosed shoes.
  • As per worker vaccination requirements, all applicants for this course must be triple vaccinated (boosted) against COVID-19 prior to undertaking placement which is a requirement for completion of this course. Students are also required to have an up to date Flu vaccination as well. Students are required to provide evidence of full vaccination status, including booster dose, as part of their placement documentation which is provided to placement facilities. Students that cannot provide valid evidence will not be able to complete placement and therefore unable to complete this course.

Academic:

Successful completion of Australian Year 11 or equivalent – Equivalents can be found on our Entry Requirements page.
